A frontend developer and community organizer.
Dave Onion has been building Drupal sites since the mid 2000s when his work with independent media, and various organizing projects led him to learn Drupal (starting around the release of Drupal 4.7) as a tool to be able hand off the reigns to non techies who needed to manage their own web sites.
Since then Dave has worked with a wide range of organizations providing front line web building support for social movements, from struggles to shut down prisons, independent news papers, the Occupy movement, movement gatherings and social spaces and more.
Dave has also been involved in a number of other tech projects including autonomous community controlled cell phone networks in Mexico, off grid solar projects supporting community struggles and land occupations and local mesh networks in his home town of Philadelphia.
He believes technologies should be firmly in control of communities who use them.
